Main driver for VLCC, VLOC and Post-Panamax container vessels due to its extended rating field
The low engine speed of 58rpm offers an increased flexibility for selecting the most efficient propeller diameter and propeller speed for VLCC’s and VLOC’s whereas the higher engine speed up to 84rpm is suitable for Post-Panamax Container vessels.
X82-2.0 is available in 6 to 9 cylinder configuration, covering a power range from 16,560 to 49,500 kW at 58 to 84rpm.
OPERATIONAL FEATURES
The X82-2.0 engine is equipped with the latest state of art development on common rail technology, which results lower fuel consumption across the entire operating range, especially at low and part loads. Intelligent Combustion Control (ICC) system enables further fuel savings by automatic balancing of each cylinder load. Different engine tunings (Delta By-Pass and Low Load) are available in order to meet specific customer requirements according to their particular needs. The flexibility in tuning parameters allows for achieving the best set up for vessel operating profile and slow steaming. The application of a Waste Heat Recovery System (WHR) can increase the efficiency of the fuel input energy by around 10% improving the overall energy use and reducing the environmental impact. The engine is fully compliant with IMO Tier III NOx emission levels when equipped with an SCR catalyst system. Alternatively, an engine internal exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is being developed and can be available on request. The introduction of the EEDI index also put an emphasis on CO2 emissions and total vessel efficiency. The X82-2.0’s internal engine and propulsion efficiencies, and the possibility to apply various Power Take-Off (PTO) arrangements for onboard electricity production, make it easy for shipyards to meet these new requirements.
TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP
The X82-2.0 is based on the very reliable RT-flex82T engine and its design stand for long maintenance-free operation. The selected stroke-to-bore ratio makes the engine compact and has a positive impact on the manufacturing cost. It also allows extended Time Between Overhaul (TBO) as much as 5 years. The service-friendly design will reduce downtime, maintain vessel operation and cut operating costs. Together with Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and service agreements, the overhaul interval could be even further extended, thus minimising maintenance costs and maximising the revenue-earning capability of the vessel.
DF-READY OPTION
All Generation X engines can be converted to use LNG as fuel. For simplifying the future conversion WinGD has introduced the DF-ready version as an option. The DF-ready engines can be easily converted to dual-fuel, as no major structural components need to be modified. All parts, which are to be replaced at a later conversion, are either typical wear parts or specific X-DF components and systems. DF-ready version is the recommended solution for LNG-ready ships.
