Makers of fuel gas supply systems are stepping up efforts to prepare for ammonia-fuelled marine engines, reports Riviera Maritime Media. The market is being driven by interest in the carbon-free fuel and new ammonia-ready vessel orders, the first being four 14,000-TEU container ship newbuilds being built for Pacific International Lines. They will be powered by WinGD’s X92DF-2.0 dual-fuel, low-pressure engines.
Fuel gas supply system sales were buoyed by a strong second quarter in LNG-fuelled vessel orders, the report notes. Among the record orderbook were six 16,000-TEU dual-fuel ultra-large container ships, to be built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corp (DSIC) and featuring WinGD’s X-DF engines.
