Swiss marine power company selects Allied Marine for North American representation

Local Port Colborne company, Allied Marine & Industrial (AMI), has been selected as the North American Agent to represent Swiss-based marine power provider WinGD. WinGD’s two-stroke engines are fitted into many Canadian owned vessels currently operating in the Great Lakes and worldwide off the east & west coasts of North America.

This partnership comes at a time when the global shipping industry is introducing significant measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, moving away from traditional fossil-based fuels. WinGD’s expanding portfolio of clean-fuel engines and ship energy systems places AMI at the forefront of the marine decarbonization efforts in North America.

AMI was selected as they represent a forward-looking company, supportive of the changes and challenges of new environmental legislation. Situated alongside the Welland Canal and the Great Lakes Fleet, AMI is well-positioned to support these significant industry changes.

“Our selection as the Agents for this highly regarded engine designer marks a new stage in our Company’s development as we contribute to the future of the Marine Industry - moving together in tackling the challenges of carbon reduction.  It also represents new opportunities in the technologies that are redefining the energy landscape in marine transportation – positioning our Marine & Industrial team of experts on the front lines of the fight against climate change.   I look forward to a rewarding relationship with our Swiss friends as we move together in building success.” Bob Mitchell – President of Allied Marine & Industrial

“Canada, and North America in general, have been trail blazers in the adoption of climate technology and innovation.  We see this as a significant market for our growing portfolio of X-DF dual-fuel engines which offer customers a choice of methanol, ammonia and LNG for the decarbonization of their fleet. Having a strong partner like Allied Marine, with their proven expertise in technical service and support, will benefit our growing customer base here.”  Volkmar Galke, Director Sales, WinGD

WinGD’s technologies represent the future of marine transportation, and AMI views this as a significant opportunity for growth and innovation. With investments from the Province of Ontario and the Federal Government, Port Colborne is being developed as an industrial center that emphasizes new environmental technologies and recognizes the critical role of marine transportation in the global supply chain. Shifting cargo transportation from roadways to ships significantly reduces the environmental footprint, as maritime transport is more fuel-efficient and produces lower greenhouse gas emissions per ton-mile, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier planet.
