Ammonia and methanol are gaining wide interest in ocean-going shipping, but with major fuel suppliers citing a 10-20 year timeframe until green fuels are widely available, LNG remains a crucial transition fuel with its own pathway to fossil-free power.
The article also covers the growing demand for fuel flexibility, both in terms of multi-fuel engines and the ability to retrofit those currently ordered to run on conventional fuels. “Almost all new projects our customers are discussing today involve the question if the engines are ready for future fuels,” says Heim.
