Low-pressure dual-fuel engines are set to dominate the LNG carrier market, Riviera Maritime Media has reported. The article cites the International Gas Union’s World LNG Report 2022, which observes that short-term and spot trading of LNG have driven uptake in more flexible and efficient propulsion systems.
The report also notes successful factory tests of WinGD’s second-generation dual-fuel engine technology, X-DF2.0, in both Japan and China. The tests confirmed that the X-DF2.0 technology known as iCER (intelligent control by exhaust recycling) “optimises fuel efficiency and emissions without compromising the reliability and low capex that has made X-DF so popular over the past seven years,” according to WinGD vice president R&D Dominik Schneiter.
