Approval in Principle for 200MW Floating Storage Power Unit

WinGD is pleased to announce that Bureau Veritas classification society has issued an Approval In Principle (AIP) to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) CO., LTD for the 200MW Floating Storage Power Unit (FSPU).

In 2020 WinGD and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) CO., LTD formed a close collaboration to design and develop a turnkey solution for an integrated Floating Storage Power Unit (iFSPU) powered by WinGD’s X-DF low-speed dual-fuel engines. This approval in principle marks an important milestone in the collaboration between the two companies, aimed to develop and provide a cost-effective, proven and reliable technology solution for clean energy with the lowest Cost of Electricity (CoE). This solution will further provide grid stabilization to support the growth of renewable energies.

The 200MW Floating Storage Power Unit represents an important first step in the collaboration between WinGD and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) CO., LTD. The two companies will work together to create a portfolio of FSPU of different sizes depending on power demand and storage requirements.

The global market demand for FSPUs is growing, especially in remote and rural areas with limited infrastructure. Floating power plants have several benefits over land-based power plants, such as mobility, flexibility, decentralized power generation and a much shorter construction time.

X-DF engines are market leaders in the marine sector for dual-fuel applications delivering high efficiency, low operational and maintenance costs and fuel flexibility. In addition, X-DF engines have very low NOx and CO2 emissions, and for power plant applications, will comply with European Emission Regulation without any additional exhaust gas aftertreatment such as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). WinGD’s X-DF technology is the most efficient, environmentally sustainable and cost- effective choice for power generation units.
